Jakarta, July 28, 2026 – PT Intan Pertiwi Industri has once again demonstrated its commitment to supporting human resource development in the field of engineering by hosting the “KOBELCO Welding Electrode Manufacturing in Indonesia” Seminar and Workshop at the Institut Teknologi PLN (ITPLN) campus in Jakarta.
This activity is part of the synergy between the industrial sector and higher education institutions aimed at producing graduates with competencies that meet the needs of the manufacturing, construction, energy, and shipbuilding industries.
Through this collaboration, students not only gain a theoretical understanding of welding technology but also acquire practical experience aligned with industry standards.
The event began with a seminar session attended by students from the ITPLN Vocational School. During the session, participants received information on modern welding technology developments, the selection of welding electrodes based on material characteristics, the application of international standards, and career opportunities in the welding industry.

They not only grasp the theory but also gain firsthand insights from industry practitioners regarding the technologies, work procedures, and professional culture they will encounter in the workforce.
During the presentation session, Farhan Mawardi from PT Intan Pertiwi Industri explained the importance of selecting the right welding electrode—based on material type, welding position, and construction requirements—to ensure strong, safe joints that meet quality standards.
Farhan also introduced various welding solutions manufactured and distributed by PT Intan Pertiwi Industri, including the KOBELCO LB-52-18 electrode, which meets the AWS A5.1 E7018 standard.
These low-hydrogen electrodes are widely used in the welding of high-strength steel and have been applied in various strategic projects, ranging from the construction of ships, bridges, steel structures, and pressure vessels to power plants.
In addition to discussing products, participants were introduced to various international standards serving as benchmarks in the welding industry—such as AWS, ASME, JIS, and marine classification standards like BKI, ABS, LR, BV, and DNV. The material also covered an introduction to welding processes—specifically SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, GTAW, and SAW—which are widely applied across various industrial sectors.
In the following session, Berry James Manurung from PT Intan Sukses Globalindo presented on the importance of Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) as an inspection method to ensure material quality and reliability without damaging the components being examined.
Participants are introduced to various inspection methods—such as Ultrasonic Testing (UT), Radiographic Testing (RT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), and Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT)—that are commonly used to inspect welded joints, pressure vessels, boilers, piping, and power plant facilities. Berry also explains that competence in NDT opens up extensive career opportunities as an inspector, QA/QC Engineer, Welding Inspector, or Technical Engineer.
Industry-Based Welding Workshop

Following the seminar session, the event continued with a welding workshop or demonstration held at the ITPLN Mechanics and Manufacturing Laboratory. A total of 20 selected students participated in hands-on welding practice under the guidance of an instructor team from PT Intan Pertiwi Industri.
In this practical session, participants use two KOBELCO welding electrodes commonly used in the industry: RB-26 and MS-77.
The RB-26 electrode is a welding rod that meets the AWS A5.1 E6013 standard; it is known for its stable arc and easy striking, as well as for producing a neat weld bead appearance, making it highly suitable for both training purposes and general fabrication work.
Meanwhile, MS-77 is used to provide practical experience in welding applications that require specific electrode characteristics to meet industrial needs.
During the workshop, students learn the key stages of the welding process, ranging from material preparation, electrode selection, and the setting of welding parameters to arc ignition techniques, weld pool control, and the evaluation of weld quality based on industry-standard practices.
Through this activity, participants not only gain an understanding of welding theory but also acquire hands-on experience using electrodes widely applied in the manufacturing, construction, and fabrication sectors.
