PT Intan Pertiwi Industri once again held an educational event at a university through a welding demonstration at Sanata Dharma University in Yogyakarta on September 10, 2026.
The delegation from PT Intan Pertiwi Industri was welcomed by the Head of the Mechanical Engineering Study Program at Sanata Dharma University, Ir. Budi Setyahandana, M.T., along with several lecturers and laboratory staff.
This activity also marks a special part of the workshop series organized by PT Intan Pertiwi Industri, as Sanata Dharma University is the first campus in Yogyakarta to be visited under the program.
Unlike events that combine seminars and workshops, the program at Sanata Dharma University in Yogyakarta focused specifically on welding demonstrations and hands-on practice. A total of 20 participants took part in the event to observe the welding process up close and gain direct practical experience.
The welding workshop was led by instructors from KOBELCO Welding – PT Intan Pertiwi Industri, namely Farhan Mawardi and Fernando Marpaung.
During the hands-on session, participants took part in a SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding) demonstration using 2.6 mm KOBELCO MS-77 welding electrode.
Participants gain hands-on experience in understanding the welding process, ranging from work preparation, electrode usage, and arc striking to the actual welding execution.
A practice-based approach helps students understand that the quality of welding results is influenced by various factors, such as welding techniques, arc stability, electrode usage, process settings, and control during the welding process.
In addition to hands-on practice, participants also have the opportunity to interact directly with the KOBELCO Welding – PT Intan Pertiwi Industri team to gain further insights into welding processes and their industrial applications.
This activity not only provides technical experience but also helps students see the connection between classroom learning and the practices used in the professional world.
SMAW Welding Demonstration Using MS-77 Welding Electrode
The use of the SMAW process in this activity gives participants the opportunity to gain firsthand experience with one of the welding processes widely used in fabrication, construction, and maintenance work.
During the session, participants used KOBELCO MS-77 welding electrode with a diameter of 2.6 mm as electrodes to practice welding under the guidance of an instructor.
Through these demonstrations and hands-on exercises, participants can directly observe the arc ignition process, electrode control, arc stability, and the weld bead formed during the welding process.
This experience provides a more practical understanding of how welding techniques and electrode control can affect both the welding process and the results.
