PT Intan Pertiwi Industri Shares Welding Insights at SIBAMA 2026 at UGM

PT Intan Pertiwi Industri participated in the Sinau Bareng PAKSIMA (SIBAMA) 2026 event, held on September 12, 2026 at the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Gadjah Mada University (DTMI FT UGM).

SIBAMA is an annual event organized by PAKSIMA as a platform to enhance the knowledge and skills of the academic community, particularly Mechanical Engineering students.

At this year’s event, SIBAMA focused on the theme of welding and KOBELCO Welding Electrode Manufacturing Indonesia through a series of welding seminars and workshops.

This event featured the team from KOBELCO Welding – PT Intan Pertiwi Industri to share their knowledge about welding and the welding electrode manufacturing industry, as well as to provide participants with hands-on experience.

Seminar Welding Bersama KOBELCO

The series of events began with a seminar session held from 9:30 a.m.–12:00 p.m. WIB in Conference Room A1, DTMI, Faculty of Engineering, UGM.

Seminar diikuti oleh kurang lebih 100 peserta dan menghadirkan Syuhada Aleen dari KOBELCO Welding – PT Intan Pertiwi Industri sebagai pemateri.

During the session, participants gained insights into the world of welding, the welding electrode manufacturing industry, and the application of welding technologies and products to support the needs of various industrial sectors.

The seminar sessions also served as a forum for discussion between students and industry professionals. Through these interactions, participants were able to understand the connection between the welding theory they had learned in an academic setting and its application in the workplace and the manufacturing industry.

Dama, a member of the SIBAMA 2026 Seminar Committee, expressed appreciation for the event, noting that it provided students with the opportunity to gain more practical learning experiences.

“We are very grateful and appreciate the seminar and welding demonstration organized by PT Intan Pertiwi Industri, as it provided UGM Mechanical Engineering undergraduate students with an opportunity to gain more practical learning experiences. Through the seminar, students were able to get a glimpse of the working world in the industry and gain a deeper understanding of KOBELCO welding electrode and its applications.”

Welding Workshop and SMAW Welding Demonstration

Workshop Welding dan Demonstrasi Pengelasan SMAW

Following the seminar, the event continued with the Welding Workshop from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. WIB at the TMP DTMI FT UGM Laboratory.

The workshop was led by instructors from KOBELCO Welding – PT Intan Pertiwi Industri, namely:

  • Farhan Mawardi
  • Fernando Marpaung

A total of 20 participants took part in the welding workshop and demonstration sessions. During this event, participants had the opportunity to observe and practice the welding process under the direct guidance of instructors.

A welding demonstration using the SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding) process with two types of KOBELCO welding electrode: the MS-77, 2.6 mm in diameter, and the RB-26, 2.6 mm in diameter.

The use of these two electrodes gives participants the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with the SMAW welding process, from work preparation, electrode use, and arc striking to electrode control and observation of the welds formed during the practical session.

Through hands-on sessions, students can understand that welding results are influenced by various factors, such as welding techniques, arc stability, electrode control, and consistency throughout the welding process.

The workshop was also supported by 14 committee members who helped ensure the smooth running of the series of activities.

According to Abas, Chair of the SIBAMA 2026 Welding Demonstration Committee, the hands-on sessions provide added value because students not only learn theoretical material but also have the opportunity to try welding firsthand under the guidance of practitioners.

“On behalf of the KMTM students and the PAKSIMA team, we would like to express our deepest gratitude and appreciation to PT Intan Pertiwi Industri for collaborating with us to present a welding demonstration as the closing event of the seminar series. This session provided tremendous added value for us, as students were not only equipped with basic theory but also received direct guidance from practitioners to apply what they learned on their own. It is hands-on experiences like this that we truly need as a bridge to apply what we’ve learned in class to meet the demands and needs of the future workplace.”

A More Practical Learning Experience

The series of seminars and workshops provides participants with a more comprehensive learning experience.

Through the seminar sessions, students gained an understanding of the welding industry and the manufacturing of welding electrodes. Meanwhile, the workshop sessions provided an opportunity to apply that knowledge through hands-on SMAW welding practice.

The combination of theory and practice is expected to help participants better understand the welding process while also familiarizing them with the technical skills required in an industrial setting.

This activity also provides students with the opportunity to interact directly with professionals, ensuring that the learning process is not merely theoretical but also closely aligned with real-world conditions and needs.

Justin, Marketing Manager at PT Intan Pertiwi Industri, also expressed his appreciation for the enthusiasm shown by the UGM Mechanical Engineering students throughout the event.

“We greatly appreciate the enthusiasm and dedication shown by the mechanical engineering students at Gadjah Mada University during this industry seminar and workshop. We hope that the knowledge and practical welding techniques we shared will be of benefit to the participants in the future.”

Winners of the SIBAMA 2026 Welding Demonstration

As part of the workshop series, participants also took part in a welding demonstration session. Several participants performed well during the event.

The winners of the SIBAMA 2026 welding demonstration at UGM are:

  • Arel Radytia Zora Eka Saputra — @zoraarel
  • Irfan Nur Ahmad — @ahmad_nurirfan
  • Ferdinand Satrio Bregas Laksono — @fer.satrio

PT Intan Pertiwi Industri extends its appreciation to the winners and all participants who actively took part in the seminars, workshops, and welding demonstrations.

Arel Radytia Zora Eka Saputra, first-place winner of the welding demonstration, said he was already familiar with the welding process. During this hands-on session, he also tried out the MS-77 and had positive feedback on its use.

“I’ve welded before, so I’m already pretty familiar with welding. When I use the MS-77, the arc feels smooth and stable, and the welds come out denser. In my opinion, the key to welding is to practice a lot so you gain more experience and learn what areas need improvement. To PT Intan Pertiwi Industri, which will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2027, I wish you continued success, prosperity, and growth.”

Bringing Students Closer to the Welding Industry

Collaboration between educational institutions and industry plays a crucial role in helping students understand the needs and practices of the workplace.

Through SIBAMA 2026, students not only gain theoretical knowledge but also have the opportunity to interact directly with industry professionals and observe and try the SMAW welding process using KOBELCO electrodes.

PT Intan Pertiwi Industri hopes that activities such as welding seminars and workshops will help students expand their knowledge, improve their technical understanding, and gain a deeper understanding of the application of welding technology in an industrial setting.

As the manufacturer of KOBELCO welding electrode in Indonesia, PT Intan Pertiwi Industri continues to support educational initiatives and the development of the younger generation’s skills in the field of welding through collaborations with universities.

Participation in SIBAMA 2026 at Gadjah Mada University is one way we are demonstrating our commitment to strengthening ties between the education sector and industry, while also promoting the development of human resources in the field of welding in Indonesia.
