HF-350

Welding Electrode HF-350

PREMIARC

HF-350 welding electrode is a hardfacing electrode for the SMAW (stick) process. This electrode is designed for build-up and increased wear resistance on work surfaces subject to intense friction.

HF-350 weld seam provides high abrasion resistance making it ideal for repair and coating of rapidly wearing components.

Generally used in bulldozer track rollers, sprockets, bucket teeth, drive gears, shafts, and machine parts made of low to medium carbon steel that require longer wear resistance.

Product Description

Welding Electrode HF-350 KOBE STEEL is a Pearlite type deposit metal designed to provide good crack resistance as well as ease of cutting.

With a weld metal hardness of Hv350, this product is very suitable for use on axles, top wheels, and saw chains of heavy equipment such as bulldozers.

HF-350 welding electrode also offers high metal-to-metal wear resistance, making it an ideal choice for heavy industrial applications.

The usage process should involve preheat and maintain an inter-layer temperature of at least 150°C for best results.

Guidelines for welding

Guidelines for better welding

  • It is recommended to re-dry at 300 - 350℃ for 30 - 60 minutes before use
  • Keep the arc length as short as possible
  • Use the step-back method to start the bow to prevent blowholes
  • Control the width of the webbing less than 3 - 4 times the electrode diameter
  • Rust, oil and other elements must be completely removed on the base metal before welding
  • Proper preheating and inter-pass temperatures are important to minimize cracking
  • Heating the weld at 300 - 350℃ for 10 - 30 minutes to prevent cold cracking
  • Post-hardening heat treatment (PWHT) at 550 - 750℃ is effective to prevent cold cracking and distortion

FAQs

What is the HF 350 best suited for?

HF 350 excels in build-up and hard coating of components operating in high friction areas such as bulldozer track rollers, sprockets, bucket teeth, drive gears, and shafts in low to medium carbon steel; pearlite-type deposits provide strong abrasion resistance while remaining reshapeable, resulting in reduced downtime and increased component life.

How hard is the HF 350 deposit and what impact does it have on performance?

Deposits are around HV 350 with a typical application range of 200 to 400 which provides a combination of high abrasion resistance and ease of cutting, so that the weld is able to withstand aggressive metal-to-metal contact while still allowing precision machining for fast and neat finishing.

How to practice heat control to avoid cracking?

Preheat and maintain the temperature between layers at least 150 degrees Celsius to suppress thermal stress, redry the electrode at 300 to 350 degrees Celsius for 30 to 60 minutes before use, after welding heat at 300 to 350 degrees Celsius for 10 to 30 minutes, and if maximum dimensional stability is required apply PWHT 550 to 750 degrees Celsius.

What welding technique is recommended for optimal results?

Use AC or DCEP with the shortest possible arc length, ignite the arc with a backward stroke to prevent pores, limit the weave width to less than three to four times the electrode diameter, completely remove rust and oil on the base metal, and then build up the layer gradually in multiple passes to obtain a dense pearlite structure that is wear-resistant and has minimal defects.

What are the main specifications and application limitations of the HF 350?

HF 350 is qualified to JIS Z3251 DF2A 400 B, available in diameters of 3.2 millimeters and 4.0 millimeters in 20 kilogram packages, suitable for shafts, top wheels, and chainsaw chains of heavy equipment with a dominant contact wear between metals and abrasion, while for extreme corrosion or cavitation wear, it is better to consider other, more specific alloys to maintain optimal performance.
